Wednesday 21st June - walks ***** Felixstowe sunrise and Bobbits Lane Nature reserve, Ipswich - sunny and hot.

Walk 1 - Summer Solstice sunrise walk at Felixstowe.

When presenter Susie asked for photos of the Summer Solstice sunrise I thought that was an opportunity too good to miss until I checked its time, 4.35 is very early but we set the alarm for 4. Next problem, I usually just walk to the seafront at the end of the road but at this time of year the sun rises near Bawdsey so we had to take the van and park up at The Dip. To be honest I did not realise the significance of the Summer Solstice but of driving past The Fludyers there were already 20 swimmers getting ready and the as we parked and walked along the prom towards the Ferry every pagan/Druid in Suffolk were on the beach waiting for the sunrise which was going to be slightly delayed due to a bank of cloud out to sea, it was a bit nippy too with a bit of a breeze blowing from the SW! There were groups with fires and open water swimmers waiting, it was lovely to be part of it all and look forward to doing it all again next year! We continued to the golf club Martello before turning onto the beach to find a quiet spot the wait. Not the best sunrise we have seen but nice none the less and I got a few nice pics including a self-timed shot of Mag and I holding hands with the sun shinning on the water behind us and was lucky to have it featured on both the BBC and ITV, I have been very lucky this week with weather pics:) So we had a lovely walk, always uplifting to catch a sunrise and then home to sort out the pics, I posted and them on Facebook and was pleased to get loads of likes and some lovely comments. Breakfast, then exercises in the sunny garden before our second adventure of the day!

Walk 2 ? Bobbits Lane Nature Reserve in Ipswich.

We had arranged to meet up with some old windsurfing friends in Copdock who we have not seen for many years, so with a picnic packed we drove into Ipswich to explore Bobbits Lane Nature Reserve at Belstead in Ipswich. The reserve is a series of woods and reed beds with Belstead Brook running through the middle, well known for Kingfishers, sadly we did not see any. Nice little car park at the end of the lane with the walk following the brook through the trees, it then opens out into a large area of reed beds, the path is overgrown in places but we get through ok with the Ipswich/London railway line to the right. Then under the railway and the path comes out at Bourne Bridge where the brook enters the River Orwell. We walk over to an really old bridge near Foxes Marina with a family of swans before entering an old favourite of ours from our childminding days, Bourne Park with its still popular paddling pool. We followed the wild area and have our picnic before returning to the nature reserve where the path follows the brook. We find a couple more wooded areas before returning to the van for a doze, it had been along day after all. Then we have a really lovely visit to our old friends where Mag gets some unusual plants before returning home, top day was had by all, tomorrow will hopefully be good when we get to see the lovely Maeva again:)
